Getting Started

The website is here to house the research done by Todd Ellermann, Anthony Park, and Ed Bukoski.

Our research was designed to prove that web application technology platforms (WATP) can be objectively evaluated and their can be a "right tool" without feeling, emotion, hype or marketing. To learn more please start by going to screencasts and view the condensed screencast which shows you four applications being developed simultaneously using 4 of the seven different languages. This is just to wet your appetite.

If you want to understand the application requirements view the UML, ERD, and the Use Case Documents then go to the requirements section of the site.

We actually wrote a Simple - Profile1 and a Three Tier - Profile 2 application in each of the seven languages (Perl, PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, .NET, and Cold Fusion) Recently, Groovy on Grails code and screencasts were added. You will find the HTML prototypes, a screen shot and the actual source code for each of the languages under CODE

You can view our use of the Decision Analysis and Resolution process from the Software Engineering Institute on the DAR Tool page. While your their you can actually use the DAR Tool to evaluate your technology choice. Screencast time was just one of many factors that we weighted to come up with our model.

When you are finished playing with the tool you will find the screencasts of individual applications interesting.

You can review our research conclusions and final presentation on the results page.

Finally, the future link provides some challenges for you to take on, or perhaps you want to fund us taking it to the next level?

Look forward to your feedback.
